Coach Liana Gombert will be headed to the Comal ISD athletic director’s office after volleyball season is complete.

Head volleyball coach Liana Gombert was named the new district athletic director at the annual Comal ISD coaches meeting, replacing former AD Matt Monzingo who will be retiring at the end of August.

Superintendent Andrew Kim said in a letter to parents,”Coach Gombert will remain at SVHS until the completion of the 2016 volleyball season as she is commited to all her players, in particular the seniors.”

Gombert has had success at Smithson Valley with 320 wins in her 12 seasons at the school. She was even named the Area Volleyball Coach of the Year in 2012.

“Comal ISD is moving in the right direction and I am excited about having Coach Gombert be part of the districts leadership team and being an intregral part of our future success,” Kim said.

Gombert will leave her role as head volleyball coach and athletic director of female sports at the school.
