With the increased number of hours needed to create the costumes, to the delays created by the making of the scripts and the rendering of the CGI effects, it’s a miracle that “Avatar: The Way of Water” released when it did.
However, despite these delays, it didn’t stop the movie from dominating the box office as the sixth fastest film to cross the billion dollar mark, and since reaching 1.7 billion dollars in box office sales, the film has made its mark as the the 7th highest-grossing movie of all time, and the highest-grossing film of 2022, overtaking its original ruler “Top Gun Maverick.”
However, good movies aren’t made without lots of hardships. Costumes had to take about 200 hours to make, and actors such as Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana, who both play the main roles of Jake Sully and Neytiri respectively had to go through lots of hour long reshoots which they described as being tiring, but necessary.
“Way of the Water” takes place 14 years after the original movie. Telling the story of both Jake Sully and Neytiri as they and their newly formed family seek refuge in the outskirts of their homeland Pandora from invading human forces.
“Avatar: The Way of Water” director James Cameron praised his actors for their hard work and dedication to the movie. The actors were also grateful for being able to return to this latest installment in the avatar franchise.
He wasn’t wrong, as the film delivers something that is both visually breathtaking, culturally impactful, and emotionally heartwarming, all without breaking the tension of its spectacularly choreographed action sequences. So, it isn’t surprising that it was also named number one for the top 10 movies of 2022 award.
Due to the success of “Way of Water”, James Cameron has already started production on a third Avatar movie and the script writing for a fourth.
