School closures continue into Thursday
February 1, 2023
As power outages from the ice storm continue across the district, all schools and departments will be closed again on Thursday.
“Throughout the evening, we have been receiving additional information regarding continued power outages across the district, including several of our campuses,” the district said in its announcement of the closure. “In order to minimize the stress on families and staff tomorrow, and to ensure all our campuses are operational when students return, Comal ISD campuses and departments will be closed Thursday, Feb. 2.”
After a winter storm bringing frigid temperatures and freezing rain hit south and central Texas late Monday night, all schools and departments in the district have been closed since Tuesday. A winter storm warning remains in effect, but temperatures are expected to rise into the 40s tomorrow afternoon and be back in the high 50s by Friday.
“While ice on the roads is not expected to be the major issue, downed tree limbs blocking secondary roads, along with overnight power outages is the main concern.” the district said on its Instagram page
All events and sports scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday have been rescheduled, but games for Thursday remain on.
