Ever since sixth grade, I have known I was put on Earth to help others. I just didn’t know how until I saw what doctors, nurses, and surgeons do.

When I first walked into  Healthcare Innovation & Science Center, all that was going through my mind was, “Wow! My dream is actually starting to come true.”

As a freshman, I am getting my first introduction to all of the classes our campus has to offer.

I am in Sara Mefford’s class, Principles of Health Science, and love it.

I am also in Health Occupations Students of America. This club’s purpose is to, “empower HOSA-Future Health Professionals to become leaders in the global health community through education, collaboration, and experience.”

This paster semester, HOSA sponsored a field trip to the Healthcare Innovation and Science Center Cadaver Lab. A cadaver is a human corpse that is used for educational dissection.

The purpose was to educate students about human anatomy by giving them experience dealing with a human instead of a plastic body.

It was such an amazing trip and experience overall. We were informed about all of the organs, vessels, muscles and bones of the body. We got to feel, holdnand examine all of them.

I learned so much new material about the skin, the heart, the lungs, the veins, the arteries and more. While there, I also learned how to tell the difference between the numerous body parts.

The people who  worked there did an amazing job of reassuring and teaching everyone. They were very straightforward and made us feel comfortable. Students were always able to leave the room if they needed to as well.

They provided pizza and some small snacks. We were there from 9:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

I will never forget this, and I am so glad I was invited to share this experience with my fellow students.
