A tennis player and a host of golfers are headed to state while boys and girls track dominated at the area meet.
Tennis
Senior Rowan Olsen will become the school’s first tennis player to compete at the state tournament. He placed second at region. His first state match is 8 a.m. April 25.
Golf
Boys golf brought home the region trophy Thursday after punching their ticket to the state tournament.
Sophomore Sayers Allen, who placed second at region, qualified for the 5A state golf tournament. She will compete in Georgetown May 15-16.
Track
Girls track claimed the area championship while the boys took home honors as the area runner-up Wednesday.
Sophomore Alyssa Jones placed first in long jump and broke her own school record of 19’6 1/2’’ She also claimed the area title in the 200m.
The 4X200m relay team of Jones, Jazmyn Singh, Favour Uduji and Jatorie Mobley sprinted to a first place finish.
Singh also took home gold for the 400 m.
In the 800m girls, Mia Perez had a PR of 2:12 to win first and Sophie Goodwin placed second with her own 2:18 PR. Perez also took second place in the 1600m.
Zada Zimmerman placed second in the 100 m and 300m hurdles to earn her trip to region. Maycee Moody placed fourth in the 100m hurdles.
Advancing in field events are Ella Pickeron (first in pole vault) and Madisyn Maley (third in discus).
The boys 4X100 relay – including Jahiery Calais, Freddie Dubose, Elijah Hudson and AJ Breault – not only took first with a time of 41.57 but also set a new school record.
Kevin Uduji (third) joined Dubose (first) and Breault (second) in sweeping the 400m.
Calais sprinted to a first place finish in the 100 m and then took second in the 200m followed by Hudson in fourth.
Brayden Youngdahl ran a 9.46 personal record to win the 3200m title, and Haven Johansen placed third in the 100 m hurdles
In the field events, Jackson Maynard finished second and Dylan Gass took fourth in discus, Brody Day placed fourth in pole vault and Gavin Garcia got third in shot put.
Baseball
Baseball (12-4) split two games this past week in two showdowns again District 26-5A leader Canyon (14-2).
In the first game April 11, Canyon barely squeaked by with a 2-1 victory. However, three days later, the Rangers took a decisive 8-2 win.
In other action, the Rangers took on Marble Falls Saturday and won 13-2. On Tuesday, they went up against district rival Boerne Champion (also 12-4), but fell 5-7. They will play Boerne Champion again on Friday at 7 p.m on the road.
Softball
Softball (10-3) took on undefeated district leader Canyon (14-0) at home on Friday but fell just short 1-2. Arianna Capek pitched all seven innings with a pitch count of 92. She had four outs and one walk.
Softball headed to Boerne Champion (10-9 and currently third in district) Tuesday and won 18-2. Softball will play Pieper here at home at 6 p.m. on Friday.
