Baseball, softball head into next rounds of playoffs

Senior Ryan Chaffin leads the baseball team as well as the softball team into the next rounds of their playoffs.

After coming off strong this past weekend, baseball and softball head into the next round. 

Baseball heads into the regional quarterfinals after a major win against South San Antonio (11-1,10-0). They will go against Boerne Champion (27-9-1). Baseball is currently 1-1 with Boerne. They will play at NEISD Sports park this week, May 18-19. The theme is Navy Out. 

The following players were recognized as Academic All-State

1st team- Ethan Carney

2nd team- Braxten Allison, Gavin Woods, Ryan Chaffin, Ryan Furay, & Stephen Salvaggio

Honorable Mention- Mason Birch and Kayden Friesenhahn

 

Softball defeated South San Antonio in a best-of-three series this past weekend. On May 11  pitcher Arianna Capek allowed two hits and zero runs against South San in the 10-0 victory. Eight runs in the sixth inning were scored by Clarey Haese, Abby Brand, Madaline Haun, Ciara Gonzalez, Zoey Allison and Bianca Shoquist.

Softball lost by one point with the score of 4-5. Pitcher for the game was Madaline Haun who pitched five innings, allowing four runs on 11 hits and striking out two. Softball ultimately out hit South San Antonio 11-7. In the deciding game, softball won 6-0. Capek pitched this game for seven innings, allowing zero runs.  Runners who scored for the team were Bianca Shoquist, Abby Brand, Zoey Alisson, and Clarey Haese. 

Round 4 in the playoffs will be played against Mercedes at Southwest High school. Game days are May 19 at 7 p.m., Saturday at 2 p.m., and if necessary a game will be held 30 minutes after Saturday’s game.
