Football

Senior kick returner Jackson Duffey set the tone against Harker Heights with a 93-yard return in the early minutes of the Rangers’ 27-10 victory Sept. 1 at Killeen.

In the second quarter, senior Clayton Amaya nailed  a 33 yard field goal. Harker Heights returned the favor with a 37 yard field goal by Jai’den Fletcher. 

Duffey found his way back to the endzone with 3-yard pass from quarterback Ryland Walker in the third quarter.

Harker Heights marched down the field and ended the drive with a 5-yard touchdown pass from Dylan Plake to TJ johnson. Brody Day matched that touchdown with one of his own, a 10-yard pass from Walker. 

Amaya nailed another field goal, a 26 yarder, in the fourth quarter for the final score of the night.

Football (1-1) hosts East Central (0-2) Friday. The Hornets fell 31-21 to Roosevelt Sept. 2, a week after a 45-20 loss to Harlan.

 

Volleyball

Volleyball team (18-11) enters district play this Friday against Pieper (15-6).

The Rangers are coming off a 2-3 loss at New Braunfels on Tuesday. The Rangers won the first two sets before losing the last 3. However they beat Steele 3-1 this past Friday.

Macie Mathies leads the team in 3.6 kills per set while Megan Zamora has the highest hitting percentage (0.379) and the most total blocks with 144. Brittan Fedyk averages 15.2 digs per set, and Marlowe Berry has had 1,426 assists. Olivia Fuentes has notched 1,242 kills and 124 serving aces. (Source: MaxPreps)

 

Water Polo

Waterpolo plays Friday at Canyon Lake.

 

Tennis

Tennis lost to Boerne Champion 7-11 on Aug. 29. 

Varsity was scheduled to host Wagner at 4 p.m. on Thursday. JV’s next game will be an inter-squad dual match on Sept. 13 at 4:30 p.m.

Junior Kyle Dear won the 2023 Masters Invitational Playoffs. He will represent team San Antonio in the 2023 USPTA Texas Junior Gran Prix State Championship this month. 

 

Cross Country 

Cross country competed at the 21st Annual Patriots CC Invitational (FEAST) 2023 in San Antonio. In the Open girls 3X Mile Run junior, Mia Perez placed 5th with a time of 17:39.17, and junior Zailey Zimmerman placed 174th with a time of 21:04.59. The next meet will be Saturday at the Canyon Cougar Invitational XC at Starcke Park in Seguin.
