After a first-quarter deadlock at 7-7, the Brennan Bears gained momentum and pulled away from the Rangers 24-13 at Ranger Stadium Friday.
Rangers’ running back Brad Sowersby found the end zone with 9 minutes left in the opening quarter, providing the Rangers with an early lead.
Afterword, the Bears marched down the field and scored a rushing TD, resulting in a 7-7 tie at the close of the quarter.
In the second quarter, the defense intercepted a Brennan pass and returned it for a touchdown, thus expanding it lead to 13-7. However, the Bear’s offensive unit scored a 57-yard rushing touchdown and successfully made the extra point, enabling the visitors to take the lead 14-13.
After halftime, the Bears increased their lead with a passing touchdown early in the third quarter, leaving 9 minutes on the clock. Afterward, a successful field goal increased their lead to 24-13 before the quarter’s conclusion, marking the end of scoring for the game.
The Rangers had a total of 112 passing yards, 67 Rushing yards, and one offensive and defensive TD.
Top passer was QB Cade Spradling who had 64 passes for 22 rushing yards. Top rusher was RB Brad Sowersby with 47 rushing yards and one TD. The top receiver was WR Brody Day who had 74 receiving yards.
The Rangers face the Madison Mavericks Friday, with the Mavericks having a 0-2 record.
