The Angleton offense has scratched through their opponents defense with their impact players, entering the state semifinals 13-1. With the help of their defense, Angleton has made the slip out of the other team’s hands like butter, clear the skies of passes with their cornerbacks and halt offenses run with their defensive line. The Rangers will face Angleton at 2:30 p.m. at McLane Stadium in Waco.
In their last game, Angleton defeated the La Porte Bulldogs, who although they beat them prior, lost 24-21 in an important game to advance in the playoffs. Angleton has a balanced offensive style relying both heavily on the pass and run. Their passing is not to be messed with as they have 1924 passing yards compared to the national average of 1340. And their rushing game is even better with a total of 3399 yards, compared to the national average of 1696, according to max preps.
Their defense is also not to be messed with as their defense hunts their prey down with 38 sacks, compared to the national average of 15.7, and 784 total tackles, compared to the national average of 553. The Wildcat defense also pounces on any ball in the air having 15 total interceptions, compared to the national average of 9 according to maxpreps.
The Angleton Wildcats’ impact players are senior RB/OLB Jamarcus Shcokley who averages 106.4 yards per game rushing and leads their team in total touchdowns in the year with 18. Shcockley is the all purpose yard leader for their team with 215 carries for 1,489 yards, averaging 6.9 yards per carry and 15 touchdowns rushing.
Their leading receiver is J’shun Sanders who has 42 receptions for 631 yards, averages 45.1 yards pergame and has a total of 8 receiving touchdowns he is also second in total touchdowns with 11.3 of which come from rushing touchdowns.
Junior QB Bryce Duron is their starting quarterback who has a QB passer rating of 113.7 with a completion rate of 56.3%. Duron has a total of 121 completions for 1895 yards, 29 passing touchdowns and 8 rushing touchdowns. Duran also has rushed for 314 yards with 67 carries; he averages 4.7 yards per carry and 22.4 yards per game.
These players might cause some trouble for the Ranger secondary and their defensive front.
The Wildcat defense may cause the Ranger offense to kick it into gear early on. Senior LB Kayden Edwards averages 8.1 tackles per game, 8 sacks in the season, and two forced fumbles. Junior DL Brynden Mack also has 8 sacks and 4 QB hurries. Senior LB Raydin Garcia has 5 forced fumbles, 4 fumble recoveries and 10 QB hurries. Senior CB Maurice Hightower may give the pass game some trouble for the rangers having 5 interceptions, and their defense has 15 total interceptions this season.
Last year, the Wildcats lost in the Area round of the playoffs to the Cedar Park Timberwolves 21-3, ending with a 7-5 five record. This year Angleton is 13-1 and previously lost to La Porte earlier in the season in a close game 35-28. But they won when it mattered and are now moving on to the semi finals.
