District battle with Judson looms tonight
October 28, 2016
The Friday night lights are shining, and football players are gearing up for a primetime matchup against district rival Judson.
The game has huge playoff implications, as the teams are tied for second in district. The pressure could be significant, but no one is more prepared for the battle that will take place than the Rangers.
They face a dynamic Judson offense, including district standouts quarterback Julon Williams and running back Sincere McCormick, insuring the front seven on the Ranger defense will have their work cut out for them.
Defensive Coordinator Craig Wersterfer knows the challenge facing his defense will be great.
“You can’t really stop a kid like him” Wersterfer said about Williams. “We’ll be doing our best to contain his movements and limit him as much as possible.”
Wersterfer will have some serious help in this endeavor, as the Rangers come into the game with the No. 1 ranked defense in Texas high school football, thanks in no small part to the play and leadership of senior linebacker John Gibbens.
“Jack is a real leader on the team,” fellow junior linebacker Bobby Palomin said. “His play and his leadership alike inspires us to the best of our abilities.”
The playoff implications ahead are just as anticipated as the contest Friday night. Both teams need to take the win to secure a playoff berth, with Clemens close behind in third place. Winning out means great momentum for the Rangers heading into a playoff matchup against either Brennan or Brandeis.
The emotion headed into the game against Judson is heavy on everyone’s minds, as senior night looms, the last home game for many of the key playmakers on both sides of the ball.
The game is sure to be a thriller, as the fight for a playoff spot for both teams ensures a grind it out battle on the field at Ranger Stadium.
