Against some of the state’s best, the swim team stood out.

The 18 athletes competing helped the team finish fifth overall. The girls’ team finished third overall while the boys’ team finished sixth.

The boys’ team was led by sophomore Konnar Klinksiek who finished first in the 50m fly and third in the 100m backstroke.

The girls’ team was led by Valerie Howell, who placed first in the 200m breast- stroke and third in the 50m breaststroke.

Howell, along with senior Hailey Webster, junior Avery Wilson and junior Caitie Mansker, competed in the 200m Medley relay that finished third and the 200m free relay that won second. Both relay teams broke the previous school records.

Overall, seven school records were topped during the meet. The same four girls also combined to break the 400m medley relay record. Howell broke the girls’ 200m breaststroke record.

Klinksiek broke the school’s 100m backstroke record and helped break the boys’ 200m medley relay along with senior Ian Ogrodnik, Shaun Besch, and senior Cole Mansker. Klinksiek, Ogrodnik and Mansker also combined with Joseph Hunt to break the boys’ 400m free relay record.

The team’s next meet is a dual meet against New Braunfels. It begins on Dec. 15 with the diving competition at the Northside ISD pool on 410 at 6 p.m. The swim competition starts at 11 a.m. Dec 17 at the Northside ISD pool.
