As the clock neared closer to the 80th minute the girls varsity soccer team watched their season come to a crushing end as they fell to the Reagan Rattlers 5-1 at Cougar Stadium last Friday in the second round of the playoffs.

The team who ends with a 16-4-3 (10-1-3 in District) record had just come off an emotional thriller the week before in the first round of the playoffs against O’Connor when they defeated the Panthers in overtime. The script was a little different last Friday as the team had gone down 4-0 at the end of the first half. The second half saw a goal from both teams respectively but by then there was no momentum for a comeback left.

Junior Kaitlyn Bumgarner led the team in both major offensive categories as she finished with 21 goals and 10 assists on the year. Senior goalies Natalie Kutac and Sarah Oranday finished the year with a .38 and 1.11 goals allowed a game percentage as they completed their final season playing goalie for the team.

Despite the loss the team has a very bright future as they had one of the youngest squads in the area losing only two seniors to graduation and returning 10 of their starting 11 for next season. With the addition of developing young players mixing with the veterans on the team for next year the girls soccer team will look to be competitive not just in district but be a force on the state level.
