Junior catcher takes on leadership position

Junior Catcher C.J Horn first picked up a baseball at the age of six, and 11 years later, Horn finds himself being named an All State player and winning San Antonio’s newcomer of the year award.

“It’s honestly been an amazing 11 years,” Horn said ,”So many friendships and memories have been made because of baseball.”

Squatting behind the plate for the varsity baseball team Horn sees himself as a leader and holds himself responsible for motivating the team and winning in any way he can.

“My role is to lead the team. Whether that’d be on defense, setting up positions on where to throw, or keeping my pitchers calm so they don’t allow the pressure of the game get to them.” Horn said.

But Horn is not just satisfied with leading his team, he also wants the team to win district. And after the surprise first round exit loss to Johnson, Horn wants to go deep into the playoffs.

“We want to win district. Then after that we want to compete for a state championship.”Horn said.

Head Coach Chad Koehl had many things to say about his starting catcher.

“He has a huge impact, he leads by example every day and he has a great work ethic.” Koehl said,“He’s a great kid and he’s a guy that every coach and teammate wants on their team.”

So far in the season, Horn has hit one home run, four doubles, had 13 RBI’s and a .340 batting average. With stats like that and a 3.5 GPA Horn Has got interest from D1 schools such as Arizona State, Baylor and UT (According to perfectgame.org). With Horn looking to lead the team into the playoffs, he keeps his mind set on one thing, winning.

”As for impact on the team,I want to be able to help SV win in any way possible.” Horn said.
