Cross Country breezes by opposition

The cross country team once again displayed the ability to dominate coming out of this past weekend with another successful race, this time at the Texas A&M Invitational.

Boys varsity found it’s stride, finishing in 2nd place in the 5k with a final score of 108. Junior Clayton Wilkerson once again led the way, finishing 11th place out of 333 runners with a time of 16 minutes and 17 seconds. Junior Andres Engle finished just two spots behind Wilkerson, finishing 13th with a time of 16 minutes and 28 seconds. The girls varsity team finished 17th in their event.

The boys and girls junior varsity teams exhibited some incredible potential, as both teams breezed through the finish line and into first place. The boys team finished with 5 runners in the top 10 in a race that featured 278 runners from 28 different schools. The top finishers included junior Jack Bracher, who finished in 4th place with a time of 17 minutes and 58 seconds, followed by sophomore Samuel Torres who finished in 5th place, just one second behind Bracher. The entire group finished with a final team score of 34.

The girls junior varsity finished with a final team score of 34 in the 2 mile event, including 3 top 10 finishes led by freshman Zoe Maruquin, who finished with a time of 12 minutes and 35 seconds.

The triumphant weekend speaks volumes of all teams, and will be a significant momentum builder going into the Chili Pepper Festival meet this Saturday.
