The varsity tennis team opened up its fall season on Aug. 29 with a 4-10 loss against New Braunfels, but the varsity bounced back the following week with a 10-0 win against Wagner.

Momentum pushed the team into a four-game win streak over the next couple of weeks, with wins coming against Steele 10-3, Canyon 10-6, Judson 10-4, and East Central 10-1.

The team fell to Clemens on the last game of the regular season with a close 9-10 loss, ending the season with a 5-2 record and third place overall heading into the district tournament Oct. 6- 7.

“I am very proud of our team and the success we achieved this fall season,” junior tennis player Colton Stevens said.

At the district Tournament, the team competed in three consecutive matches that included a dominating first round win against East Central 10-0. The semi round ended with the team falling short in a 8-10 loss against powerhouse New Braunfels, but the team battled back with 10-3 win over Canyon and qualifying for the regional tournament.

The fall season ended with a with a 2-10 loss to San Antonio Health Careers Oct. 26 at region.

“The expectation is to continue to work hard and have good individual successes at the invitational tournaments,” coach James Lalonde said, “which will hopefully translate to players doing very well at the spring district tournament”.
