Bring Back the Originals
February 2, 2018
The best movie era is arguably the 1980’s. The 80’s gave us films like The Breakfast Club, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, Pretty in Pink and so many more treasures.
Yet, in this era we have officially ran out of movie ideas. Remake after remake has made amazing movies drawn out and boring. The 80’s were romantic, passionate, they taught people that being cool didn’t always mean being a jerk. People found themselves in 80’s movies, people could relate. But now, there’s just an endless drone of remakes and pointless movies.
A Washington Post article commented on an attempt to remake Dirty Dancing stating, “You will not have the time of your life watching ABC’s “Dirty Dancing” musical. It is neither good nor deliciously bad. It is a banal three-hour time-suck that manages to feel both rushed and drawn out.”
Countless remakes have been attempted on Disney classics in a way to “modernize” them, but when is enough enough? We are tired of the constant circular drone of classic movies being made into something “new” that doesn’t do the original half the justice it deserves!
Sophomore Erin Tubbs stated, “I don’t even want to go to the movies anymore, it’s a waste of money! All the best movies are the originals and I can get those on Netflix!”
At the end of the day, the remakes need to stop and we should just stick to creating new and original ideas.
