Following a 4-2 win against Converse Judson on Tuesday, the girls softball team improved their record to 8-4 (3-3 in District) and now sit at 4th place in District 27-6A.

The team came into the year boasting a relatively young squad but have been able to step up to the plate so far.

“We’ve faced a lot of challenges already and our numbers are thin.” coach Lisa Daigle said.

The team has been able to rely on the dependable play of captains juniors Carissa Vasquez, Hannah Kohlmansberger and Presley Smith.

Smith is the team’s primary pitcher, holding a 6-3 record with a 1.08 era. Junior Kayline Kline leads the team in batting average hitting .513 while Vasquez sits right behind batting .500.

“Our captains are doing a great job of stepping up and leading.” Daigle said.

The team still has eight games remaining on their schedule and look to stay secure in the playoff picture.

Their next game comes up tonight at 7:30 p.m. against New Braunfels. The game is at home.
