With a score of 80.76, the color guard won first place for the TECA North Zone Championships at Wagner HS on Saturday and will advance to State.

The guard beat runner up Robert E. Lee HS by three points with their show called “Applause.”The guard added a little more to the show by wearing masks.

“The masks helped our score bump up to 11 more points,” guard instructor Samuel Woodfield said.

Two years ago, the guard won first place at the 2016 WGI Regional in Tulsa, Okla., and won first place at the TECA 2016 state championships with the show called “Love is You.”

In 2017, the guard qualified for state and got fifth place in state for TECA with its show named “Red Dress Baby.”

“If we perform like we did at the last competition, then we have a major chance at winning state,” senior Carlie Gothard said.

The guard will perform their 2018 winter guard show for the TECA State Championships on April 7 at Henrietta M. King High School in Kingsville at 6:29 PM.
