Tennis preps for match against Steele
September 4, 2015
The fall season would not be the same without the tennis team trying to climb to the top of district.
With a winning record of 2-1, the team prepares to take on the challenges that lie ahead.
Senior captain Olivia Chuber believes New Braunfels will be the toughest opponent.
“In our last match, we lost to them 10-6,” Chuber said.
But junior co-captain Austin Hughes disagreed.
“We don’t have any reason to not beat New Braunfels this year and go to regionals,” Hughes said.
Though the team lost to New Braunfels 3-10 early in the season, the players recovered to beat Wagner 10-0.
“The fall season is my favorite because we not only win as a team but also spend time together,” Chuber said.
As team captains, Hughes and Chuber said they knew their responsibility was not all play.
“The hardest thing I’ve encountered as team team captain is making various decisions and leading practice,” Hughes said, “But I like the challenges that it brings.”
With the goals set for the team this year, the captains have their work cut out for them.
“It’s a fun job, but it’s sometimes hard to take care of all the necessities,” Chuber said.
The next tennis match will be at 5:30 p.m. Sept. 8 at Byron P. Steele High School.
