In the Northside tournament last weekend, the girls basketball team made it to the fourth game after winning the first two. This is the first of the three tournaments that the team will play this season.

The team tipped off the tournament with a game against Madison and started the tournament strong. They put down Madison with a 12 point victory (64-52), improving their record to 2-0 after the game. Junior Anika McGarity dropped 23 points on the Mavericks which is the season high for the Rangers.

In the next game, the team took down South San Antonio outscoring the Bobcats in the last three quarters. Junior Tanyse Moehrig dominated the boards in this game with 14 rebounds ( 8 offensive) along with a solid 19 points for her first double-double of the year.

This put the Rangers at a 3-0 undefeated record following this game but they were scheduled to play San Antonio Clark in the tournament just five hours following the game against the Bobcats.

Both the Rangers and Clark came into the game with undefeated records and someone had to concede their first loss of the season. Despite Anika Mcgarity’s 19 points the Rangers took a hefty 29 point loss for the first of the season. Clark took control early with a 35-17 lead at half time and from their the Rangers were unable to get back in the game.

The Rangers still had one game left to play the next day for the tournament with a Sunday game against Lewisville Flower Mound. The Rangers kept the game close throughout the game as they came into the fourth quarter winning by 1, 44-43, however Lewisville outscored the Rangers by nine in the fourth to take down the Rangers in the final game of the Northside tournament.

The next game for the team will be against the Buda Hays Rebels this Tuesday at home. The Rangers are coming into this game with a 3-2 record.
