February 11, 2019
Girls basketball heads into the first round of the UIL 6A Regional playoffs against Bowie high school at 7pm after a successful season led by Anika Mcgarity and Tanyse Moehrig.
The girls boast a 22-8 record, with large wins over district opponents such as a 57-45 win over San Marcos on Dec. 11, a 55-31 win against Clemons on Dec. 18, and a win over their district rival Canyon 60-27 on Dec. 21.
The Rangers also had some close calls, such as the last second, three-point buzzer beater by Anika Magarity on Feb. 2 to put the Rangers over Judson in a 44-42 win on.
Magarity averages 11.2 points per game, nearly matching Moehrig’s average of 11.3 points per game before she was injured Judson in January.
Coach, David Farber said he was optimistic going into the post season despite the loss of Moehrig.
“She (Tanyse) has been out for nine games so the team has had to make adjustments,” he said.
Despite the loss Farber and the Rangers have continued to play at a high level.
“You have to have high expectations,” Farber said, “if you want to be successful.”
