Seventeen track and field athletes advanced to region April 19-20 after placing in the top four at the area meet Wednesday in New Braunfels.

Seniors Jazmyn Singh, Jaxson Maynard and Ella Pickron set the pace to return to state with commanding performances.

Maynard’s discus throw of 169-11.00 feet bested second place by two feet while Singh’s 400 meter dash time was more than a second ahead of the next fastest, and Izabella Sutherland was not far behind in third.

In pole vault, Pickron and freshman teammate Sofia Mitschke cleared the bar at 11-06 and 11-0 respectively while third place was 10 feet.

The girls 4X400 m relay team, anchored by Singh, came in at 3:54.84, well ahead of Cedar Park’s silver medal performance of 3:59.02. Izabella Sutherland, Lilly Koenig and Mia Perez also ran in the relay.

Maycee Moody, Avianna Miller, Karis Leyendecker and Singh took gold in the 4X100 meter relay to advance to region. The boys 4X100 relay and 4X200 relay of Bradley Sowersby, Liam Magee, Caden Spradling, Conor Drott placed second and third respectively to punch their card to the next level.

Mia Perez placed third in the 800 and 1600 meter races as well as Moody in the 100 meter hurdles, and Miller took second in the 200 meter dash. Sowerby advanced with his fourth place in the 100 meter along with Bradyn Youngdahl fourth in the 3200 meter.
