Football shut out the Madison Mavericks Friday with a 65-0 score at Comalander Stadium.
The team takes on Boerne Champion in the district opener at 7 p.m. at home.
During the first quarter, Trent Amaya kicked a 52-yard field goal, beating his brother Clayton’s record of a 49-yard field goal, which is currently the Class 5A championship game record.
Four minutes later, with 4:10 remaining in the first quarter, Brad Sowersby scored a 4-yard rushing touchdown, one of four touchdowns he scored in this game.
Cade Spradling made an 18-yard rushing touchdown with 1:51 left on the clock, ending the quarter with a score of 17-0.
Sowersby started the second quarter with an 11-yard catch from Spradling, scoring a touchdown and extending the Rangers’ lead. Three minutes later, senior Diego Davila returned a punt for 43 yards with 7:10 left in the quarter.
Sowersby ended the second quarter with a 25-yard rushing touchdown, then followed it up in the third with a 10-yard rushing touchdown.
Senior Daniel DeHoyos scored a 9-yard rushing touchdown with 5:49 remaining in the third quarter.
With 10:51 left in the fourth quarter, sophomore Caleb Peagler scored a 4-yard rushing touchdown. The scoring ended with a 9-yard receiving touchdown caught by junior Brody Wich, ending the game 65-0.
In the game, Spradling completed 4 out of 7 passes for one touchdown and 52 yards. Sowersby was the top rusher with 10 carries for 101 yards and three touchdowns. Brody Day caught the ball 3 times for 46 yards.
