Football
The Rangers enter the bye week with some work to do after a loss against the Pieper Warriors 36-39.
The Warriors came out strong the first drive scoring to make it a 7-0 ball game. Once Rangers got the ball, they were only able to respond with a field goal.
Both teams went back and forth all game with Smithson Valley taking the lead 36-32 with two minutes to go. The Warriors capitalizedon a 41-yard game winning touchdown pass to senior tight end Evan Drake to inevitably close out the game.
The Rangers now have a 3-2 record on the season, and Pieper is now 5-0 and are looking to continue this streak.
With this bye week, the Rangers are gonna use their time to analyze what their strong and weak points are and will look to see how they can improve play for the rest of this season.
The Rangers are now 1-1 in district play.
Half way through the bye week, football grinds to improve their teams, making adjustments offensively and defensively. Since most teams don’t have a game this week, they are mostly working on skills to improve their play on the field.
The grind never stops, so teams will work on and off the field to improve their chances of making a deep run into the season.
Volleyball
Volleyball beat Veterans Memorial 3-0 improving their record to (21-12) and their district record to (6-2). Senior Ava Annunzio led the team in kills with 7 with a 70% kill percentage. Juniors Sophia Fuentes led the team in assists with 10 and Jacey Owens led the team with 4 blocks. Owens also led the team in Aces with 3. Freshman Brooke Oney led the team in assists with 11.
The team looks to face Boerne Champion on the road next Friday at 6:30 p.m.
Tennis
The team played their last district match yesterday against Veterans Memorial winning 10-6. They finished in fourth place overall in district and ended the season with a district record of 5-3 and an overall record of 10-4.
The team looks to advance to the Bi-District round of playoffs.
Cross Country
The girls cross country leaves their competition in the dust once again, taking first place overall at the Jesuit XC Classic this past Saturday. They led with 50 points, winning by a landslide of 52 points.
Senior Mia Perez came in second place with a time of 18:26:00, and freshman Brady Solansky followed her in third with a time of 18:38:00. Other notable performances from the team are junior Lilly Koenig who came in 12th place and freshman Skyler Fonesca who came in 18th place.
The boys team came in 14th place overall in their 5000 meter run final. The team led with junior Zebene Martine in 24th place and junior Luke Smith in 25th place.
The team will compete next at the UIL 5A – District 26 meet on Oct. 12.
