Ranger football closed out District 13-5A play on the road Thursday with a 45-0 rout over Victoria East.
After a 20-yard run by sophomore running back Caleb Peagler, senior quarterback Cade Spradling connected with senior wide receiver Brody Day for a 37-yard touchdown pass and the first score of the game.
Victoria East went four and out before senior Diego Davila rubbed salt in the wound with a 32-yard punt return to set the Ranger offense in good field position. Spradling ended the drive with a 25-yard touchdown.
A fumble on a punt return gave Victoria East hope until Julian Colunga scored on a pick six from 40 yards out.
The scores kept coming – a 15-yard pass reception by sophomore Hunter Haug, a 61-yard heave to Day, and a three-yard dash by senior Daniel De Hoyos.
The Rangers turned the ball over but get it back in with less than one minute to go. Ty Knutson connected with Brody Day on a 40-yard pass and Daniel De Hoyos followed it up with a 15-yard run to set up a Trenton Amaya field goal and a 31-0 score going into halftime.
Late in the third quarter, Day broke 25 yards for his second touchdown of the night.
Haug also ran into his own touchdown, set up by a 20-yard pass from Spradling to Davila.
Football heads into playoffs next week a 7-1 district record and second place behind Pieper (8-0 district).
