After a first round playoff 49-7 win against South San Antonio Bobcats, football (9-2) travels to new territory to play the 11-0 Edinburgh Vela Bearcats on Friday at 7 p.m.
Vela might be a new opponent for the Rangers, but they are no pushover, having made the playoffs for the past 10 years.
It has a pass-heavy offense led by senior quarterback Geoffery Lefevre, who has 29 touchdown passes on the season. Senior running back Jonathan Flores leads the team in rushing yards with 156 yards per game.
On the other side of the ball, junior linebacker Orlando Cano leads the team in tackles with 4.2, and junior defensive back Sergio Briones leads the team in interceptions with 3.
Senior dual threat quarterback Cade Spradling has accumulated 1,032 yards of passing yards with 15 touchdowns and 499 rushing yards with 10 touchdowns.
Against South San, sophomore QB Tyler Knutson led the game with 110 yards and 2 touchdowns. The team had a total of 181 yards passing and a total of 4 touchdowns through the air, two of which were by Spradling.
Friday’s leading rusher was spradling with 2 carries for 54 yards. Three rushing touchdowns came from senior Brad Sowersby, sophomore Caleb Peagler and junior Owen Truss.
Leading receiver was senior wide receiver Brody Day with 3 receptions for 101 yards and a touchdown. Senior WR PK Moeller also had 3 catches for 31 yards and a touchdown.
On defense junior linebacker Colton Hornsby led the team in tackles with 15 tackles including 2 tackles for loss.
It’s all to play for in the second week of highschool football playoffs and the Rangers are looking forward to keeping the family together for one more week.
