The Rangers won their regional playoff game against New Braunfels 56-21. They will play Flour Bluff in the quarterfinals Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Alamodome. Flour Bluff defeated Pieper 57-56 in their Area playoff game and the Southwest Dragons 35-28 in their Regional.
Football started off hot on the defensive side of the ball, holding the New Braunfels on their own 30 yard line after a big stop on third down from Diego Davila. Offense then returned the favor with a strong first drive that ended with a 17 yard pass from Cade Spradling to Brody Day and a 2 yard rushing touchdown from Cade Spradling to go up 7-0 in the 1st quarter.
The Rangers continued their great run of form as they came into halftime with a lead of 28-7. The Rangers didn’t stop there, coming out of halftime senior running back Brad Sowersby used his incredible speed to avoid defenders and get the Ranger offense in great field position.
Sophomore running back Caleb Peagler came in and finished the drive with 2 big runs and a touchdown to extend the lead 35-7. The defense came out and continued to dominate as junior defensive end Hudson hit the quarterback as he threw, and junior linebacker Colton Hornsby picked it off and returned it inside the Unicorns 20 yard line. Brad Sowersby went one and done as he ran it in for a 19 yard rushing touchdown on the first play of the drive to extend the lead 42-7.
Football let up two touchdowns in the third quarter and the unicorns cut the lead down to 21.
Senior quarterback Cade Spradling then answered back with a 33 yard rushing touchdown to extend the lead 49-21. The Rangers held the Unicorn offense to no points in the fourth quarter and added on to their score after a 29 yard rushing touchdown from Daniel De Hoyos to finalize the score 56-21. The Rangers ran down the clock and clinched their spot in round four of highschool playoff football.
This games passing leader was Senior QB Cade Spradling who had six completions for 64 yards.The rushing leaders were also Spradling who had 22 carries for 143 yards and 3 touchdowns, and senior RB Brad Sowersby who had 16 carries 94 yards and two touchdowns.
The leading Receiver for the game was Senior WR Brody Day with 4 receptions for 53 yards
Defensive players that stood out were Sophomore S Haunter Haug who led the team in tackles, junior LB Colton Hornsby who had an interception and took it back for 51 yards putting the Rangers in great field position, senior S Diego Davila who also had a Interception, and senior DT Caleb sosa who led the team in sacks having one of his on and tackles for loss also having one.
