The tennis team took home the boys’ team and individual championships, as well as second in both boys and girls singles on April 4 at the district meet hosted by Clemens.

The boys’ team was led by Nico Dominguez and Brandon Giordanelli who placed first and second.

“Our guys are very talented,” coach Thomas Mayton sai. “It was interesting when they both got to that position and had to play each other for the district championship.”

While still friends, both Dominguez and Giordanelli played at the same level that earned them spots in the final match.

“The good news was that we were playing for first and second,” Mayton said. “The bad news was that we were playing for first and second and one had to get second.”

Both secured spots in the regional tournament before their “friendly” match.

Jolynn Scriven also secured a spot in the regional tournament with her second place finish and will be the only representative for the girls’ team.

The regional tournament will be at McFarlin Center in San Antonio on April 18.
