Softball clinches playoff spot

leyThe team didn’t need the win to move on to the playoffs, but the 8-0 victory over New Braunfels Tuesday helped the team avoid a tiebreaker with Judson for the fourth and final seed.

“Just getting in the playoffs was a big deal this year,” coach Lisa Daigle said. “The team is so young, and they were able to continue the long playoff streak.”

The team has little playoff experience as the roster only includes two seniors.

“Inexperience, nerves and never having been there before makes things tough,” Daigle said.

Seniors Haley Padilla and Hailey Smith led the team throughout the season and set the pace for the younger players.

“They lead by example,” Daigle said, “and also verbally, the verbal leadership was the most important.”

The team will find out its first round opponent after the last slate of regular season games comes to a close Friday night.
