The varsity lacrosse team took on district opponent TMI Episcopal for the most nail biting performance on the season with a 15-7 win. TMI, the second highest scoring lacrosse team in district, became a tough matchup for the Rangers. The team took a 4-0 commanding lead early in the first quarter over the Panthers only to find themselves in a tight matchup as TMI started their comeback. The Panther’s offense, unfazed continued their constant pressure and rotation on the Ranger’s defense shrinking their lead completely by the end of the first half with the score 7-7.

“We were lacking toward the end of the first half, but adjustments were made and we executed” said sophomore defenseman Sam Garibay.

After adjustments were made, the Rangers came out with fire in the second half. The team’s defense held TMI scoreless for the remainder of the game and piled on scores from offensive efforts by the Rangers midfielders and attacking core of Aaron Clark, Daniel Conner, Will Ford, and Ian Feely. Senior goalie, Logan Smith made his presence known with a coast to coast goal of his own late in the third quarter, crippling the Panthers motivation to win.

“This is a great win not only for our team, but for our lacrosse program and community as a whole” said senior defenseman Wyatt Tomallo.

The team battled Boerne last Saturday in 11-3 blowout win with goals scored from all sides of the field. The team played in sync having little trouble shutting down their opponent as the team rotated their younger players toward the end of the game.

With this win the Rangers have now dominated the tables in district leading to their first ever district title in the programs history. This big win not only means a district championship for the team, but more importantly gives the Smithson Valley Lacrosse Program a new identity under head coach Ben Conner for the years to come.
