The golf team will compete at state Monday at the Legacy Hills Golf Club. Golfers including as Zach Seader, Aiden Page, Anniiston Mcllwain, Cole Cantu, and Ryan Griff will represent the boys team, while Sayers Allen will play.

UIL academic teams win district sweepstakes

Cross-examination debate, one-act play and journalism earn first place titles

The UIL academics team clinched sweepstakes for District 26-5A on April 6 while sending more than a dozen scholars to region on April 27 at the University of Texas at San Antonio. 

The district winning performances of the cross-examination debate team and the one-act play “Iphigenia” set up rest of the team with victories heading into Saturday’s contests.

The journalism team of Bethany Mann, Alex Whelchel and Dale Hodge continued the program’s 10-year district title streak. Mann and Whelchel battled for the top two spots in news, feature, editorial, headline and copy editing while Hodge placed third in headline and in the top six in editorial and news.

Trajan Falk and Thomas Barton led the science team to a second place finish. Falk took the top score in physics and second in chemistry, and Barton had the third highest score in biology.

In speech events, Grace Silvers took home gold in poetry interpretation as well as Wilson Smith in prose. Rowen Hamilton placed third in Lincoln Douglas debate and helped set the pace for the speech team’s second place.
