New theater directors Judith Adams and Anthony Hanke made their own spin on the popular play “Little Shop of Horrors” with the theater department. Performances will take place Nov. 7 – 9.
“We figured this would be a good show that fits the students well this year and for them to experience a different side of theater,” Adams said. “Even though Little Shop of Horrors has been around for a long time, the timing just felt right for the students and the campus.”
“Little Shop of Horrors” is currently running Off-Broadway, starring Andrew Barth Feldmann (Seymour) and Sarah Hyland (Audrey).
“This show has had legendary celebrities like Steve Martin, Rick Moranis, Tisha Campbell, Corbin Bleu and Sarah Hyland in either movie or Broadway productions of it,” Adams said, “so it’s cool for the students to be able to tap into the characters that those actors have been in.”
The show will feature junior Antonio Agraz as Seymour and senior Ella Winkler as Audrey. Rehearsal began the third week of school.
“I’m pretty pumped to see these students perform on the stage under my direction for the first time,” Adams said. “Especially with this style of show. I think it has given them the opportunity to let loose a bit on stage and experience bigger physicality in their acting. Each day I’m filled with more excitement than nervousness to see how it looks when it fully comes together.”
Adams hopes the audience takes away a new experience from this popular show.
“The audience can expect to be fully immersed into the world of the play that is created and should feel like they are a part of the show in some way,” she said. “They should expect characters to live their life through the entirety of the auditorium.”
