Little Shop of Horrors is being performed for the first time in Smithson Valley history. This rendition led by Junior Antonio Agraz, in his debut performance as Seymour Krelbourn.
“To have a show centered around my character is really fun. Having to be everywhere is definitely time consuming and takes a lot of effort, but it’s worth it. “
Little Shop features more than just acting, but musical numbers and choreography as well. Agraz’s character is no different as he participates in a variety of these numbers.
“The funnest part of being Seymour is the singing. It’s like constant karaoke!”
One of the most important parts of the show is the directors as they guide the cast into the general direction they want the show to go in. Ultimately their input and artistic style is just as important as the choices the cast makes during the show. New directors Judith Adams, and Anthony Hanke have made their impact on the cast and the show known. This musical is stated to be unique to the ones previously done at Smithson Valley.
“I think everything about this musical is different from previous ones since we have new directors, a bigger budget for sets and props, and more time to work on it.”
Besides the on stage differences they have also impacted theater beyond the props and walls of the stage. This includes Ms. Adams focusing more on social media than previous years and the increased help from boosters and volunteers to advertise the show.
Agraz expresses that “They are super kind and get stuff done. They impacted this musical by really reaching out to every part of the school and trying to make theater a part of the community.”
The show will be performed on November 7th, 8th and 9th in the auditorium.
