Award-winning dance coach Jennifer Hoffman retired after a successful two years and multiple trophies. Coach Ashtyn Burttschell took Hoffman’s place, leaving many wondering whether the team would continue its winning streak or fall short this competition season.

Burttschell moved to town to be closer to her family but faced challenges with her new team.

“Moving in general is a challenge, and out here I have to find new choreographers and connections,” she said. “Competition season is coming up, and the girls have been working really hard since August to learn and perfect their routines.”

Despite the challenges, Burttschell kept a positive attitude and worked with her girls for countless hours upholding the team’s reputation.

“She’s more strict than Hoffman was, but she works to make us stronger and closer as a family,” second-year member Heather Day said. “We’re definitely a lot closer now and seeing our team grow and come together because of Coach is amazing.“

The award-winning varsity and JV teams also ensure Burttschell’s efforts aren’t wasted.

“We all have a lot in common” JV Social officer Taylor Vela said. “We all put in work and effort to better our team as well as the effort to get to know each other. It’s a lot of work, but in the end we’re in this together, and we all have the same goal and dedication to bring home a trophy.”

Burttschell’s organization and dedication offer an advantage over the other teams. They have a caring coach who is willing to work whatever hours are necessary to prepare both teams and ensure them a chance in competition.

“Coach Burttschell is definitely more organized than our previous coach,” said Alysha Hokanson, a second year member of the JV team. “I feel that we have a good chance at bringing home a trophy because we have dedication as well as a good coach that teaches us great choreography. We have a strong team and a strong coach.”

The award-winning teams risked their shot at a trophy this year when they lost their coach, but Burttschell offers them a good chance at winning.
