Baseball dominates first tournament of the season

With a hot start to the season, the varsity baseball team swept the competition at the Border Olympics to the start the year with a 6-0 record and capture the championship in their first tournament.

The dominance began last Thursday with resounding 14-2 victory over Del Rio. On Friday, the team came out and got a solid 4-2 over La Joya Palmview, but was tested heavily in their second game of the day against Edinburg Vela. After a late surge to close the game by the team they were able to come away with a 8-7 victory.

On the final day of the tournament the team went into Saturday with an undefeated record and a chance at taking home the tourney title. In the team’s first game of the day they came away with a strong 7-4 win over Houston Westside. The final game of the tournament came down to a battle between the team and Boerne Champion. In what was the highest scoring affair of the weekend for the team they were able to capture the tournament crown with a 17-11 victory.

With a 6-0 record the boys get to come home and play in the Comal ISD tournament March 4th, at Smithson Valley. Their second tournament of the year will begin on Thursday and end Saturday.
