“Spirited”, the newest movie released by Apple TV, stars Ryan Reynolds (Clint) and Will Ferrel (The Ghost of Christmas Present). The movie puts a spin on the classic play by Charles Dickens, “A Christmas Carol.”

The movie is from the perspective of the ghosts instead of the person being “haunted” which adds a completely different element to the story. The film opens with all the ghosts finishing up their haunt for that Christmas followed by a big dance number that is surprisingly well executed.

Searching for the next person to haunt, the ghosts come across Clint Briggs who is labeled as “unredeemable”. Not discouraged by the news, The Ghost of Christmas Present convinces the rest of the team to choose Clint.

“Spirited” is a movie musical. Which may sound unappealing, but the songs ended up being very well written and funny.

As the three different ghosts take Clint on his haunting, he doesn’t react like everyone else. Continually interrupting the storylines with sly remarks, which add to the comedic element of the movie, Clint and the ghosts start to question if it’s possible to redeem an unredeemable.

That is until The Ghost of Christmas Present reveals a big secret to Clint, that he was also once unredeemable. Straying from the script, he takes Clint back to his own past to show him that redemption is possible.

After another big dance number, where Clint convinces The Ghost of Christmas Present to be bad once more, The ghost finally takes Clint to the memory that’s guaranteed to change him, his sister’s death.

Director Sean Anders did a great job at putting a spin on a classic story without ruining it.

Overall, the movie was decent. Considering the countless A-list actors involved in the film, expectations were set high. With Ryan Reynolds and Will Ferrel being in it, “Spirited” did not reach its full comedic ability. However, the storyline was interesting and well done.
