After the first year of the college football playoffs, it’s safe to say that it didn’t go as planned.
The college football playoffs included the five highest-ranked conference champions, who received automatic entry, and the seven highest ranked teams remaining would round out the 12 team format.
This is a massive change because before these new rules, there were only four teams chosen and those teams were ranked top four in all of college football ,which made it harder to enter the college playoffs.
Many believe this new format didn’t work because of how many teams were selected to enter the playoffs, which is true, but to add on to that, many of those teams didn’t deserve to be there and were only there because of their records.
Bowl games also shouldn’t be considered playoff games because they’re in a separate category, and while there is a lot of intensity in bowl games, many fans feel that bowl games should be their own thing.
One common factor in the college football playoffs was there were a lot of blowouts in the early rounds, and this was because of the teams that really shouldn’t have been there playing against teams that were powerhouses.
It was only until the last 3-4 games where it was hard to tell who was going to come out on top, and that’s where one start to question, “What was the point of having all these extra games if these four teams were clearly the best?”
These thoughts cirlce the minds of a lot of people, but there was no answer.
It’s hard to judge something off of its first attempt, so hopefully there will be some changes to make things more competitive for next year’s college football playoffs.
